A watch person will, for all entries, be posted outside the door or entryway to the confined space. If entry is made at several points, consider having a watch person at each point. Watch person duties include:

•Remain in continuous communication with the workers inside the space.

•Alert workers to hazards that may exist and evacuate workers should conditions become hazardous.

•Summon emergency response personnel should life threatening conditions develop. NOT to enter the space without other personnel in attendance for backup.

•Occasionally or continuously gas test depending on what was determined in the pre-job safety meeting.

•Ensure all workers are out of the space at breaks or the end of the shift and mark the entrance to the confined space to ensure no further entry.
