Process Building / Lease Entry

Date Reviewed:  February 15, 2023

When approaching a facility or working around a facility, especially alone, the following should be considered:

Check wind direction and identify muster point.

Park vehicles a safe distance (7m) from process equipment or potential gas sources.  Park vehicles close to entrances and pointed toward the facility exit.

Use 4-head personal monitors consistently to detect H2S, LEL, CO and measure O2 where required / provided.

Approach process equipment on foot slowly.  Monitor wind direction.  Look and listen for anything unusual, (smoke, venting gas, etc.).  ALWAYS call a potential problem in to another employee and consider waiting for backup before investigating further or responding to a potential problem.

Check by touch if building door is hot (if hot, do not open).  Open building doors slowly, stepping away with the door and prop them open if working within, even for a short time.  Consider propping two doors open to ensure cross ventilation for larger buildings.

Stop, look and listen again for potential hazards, while allowing the building to vent thoroughly.

Do not enter the building if gas detector is in alarm or if other dangerous situations exist or if dangerous situation arises while in the building.  Contact back up and wait for backup pe3rsonnel and equipment before entering.

Ensure that every door in a hazardous work area opens away from the hazard and is not blocked by an obstruction.

Stay in communication with others routinely on a pre-determined schedule.
