Typical hazards encountered when motors involve the inadvertent starting of equipment and / or resulting injury associated with moving machinery. The following factors should be considered when working on motors:
•The main breaker shall be locked out and tagged as per the Lock out Procedure
•On pump jacks, the brake must be applied, with the counterweights in the down position before anyone performs work. The counter weights must be chained in place before any work proceeds where the potential exists for someone getting crushed.
•Apply brake & ensure working properly.
•Follow safe hoisting and rigging requirements.
•Ensure that all guards are installed.
