1.Assume that all gas releases on a lease are sour. Proceed cross-wind and away from the source to a pre-designated safe location / muster point (if designated).
2.Call Supervisor, the Client Representative, and 911 if needed. Do not attempt to isolate the release or enter the area.
3.If the area has to be entered, do so only with breathing apparatus and with back-up / standby person with whom you can maintain continuous contact.
Refer to Section 7.3 of the Safety Manual for more information on H2S gas.
Rescue: NOTE: No rescue attempt shall take place unless H2S gas measurements are below 500 ppm!
•All rescuers and watch personnel must wear positive pressure SCBA.
•If at all possible, remove the casualty up-wind and away from the gas release. Always move the casualty head first, attempting to protect the head and neck.
•Only perform CPR (if required) when the casualty has been removed from the affected area.
•If CPR is required, do not stop until the casualty starts to breathe on his/her own or you are relieved by another capable person. Avoid breathing in the exhaled H2S.
•Transport to hospital, even if the casualty appears to be alright. Hydrogen Sulphide can produce Hydro-sulfuric acid in the lungs, which can result in pneumonia sometime after the incident.
•Complete the Power Tech Industries Ltd. incident report.
