Apprentice Electrician Competency Expectations
Abilities below would be an asset but are not a requirement. However, the expectation would be that they acquire all the abilities of a journeymen by the time they achieve their journeyperson status.
Register for and attend apprenticeship at SIAST:
Obtain all 4 years of education and complete apprenticeship and acquire a journeyperson certificate. Can be done after hire if not already registered.
Hazardous Area Classification:
Upon hire, some knowledge considered an asset.
Power Distribution:
Upon hire, some knowledge considered an asset.
Blueprints and schematics:
Upon hire, some knowledge considered an asset.
Diagnostics:
Upon hire, some knowledge considered an asset.
Safe Work Practices:
Adherence to all safe work policies and documentation. Such as harassment policy, safe work policy, fit to work policy, etc.
Mandatory Safety Certifications:
Current certificates that include H2S Alive, First Aid/CPR, and WHIMIS.
