Work Rule

Alcohol and Drug Work Rule:

Power Tech Industries prohibits the use, possession, sale, manufacture, and/or distribution of alcohol and illegal/controlled substances and/or drug related paraphernalia on Company premises or while performing duties for Power Tech Industries on Client work sites away from Company premises, and/or during work hours.

1.Employees shall not report for work while their ability to safety perform their duties is adversely affected by the use of prescription or non-prescription drugs, if they have an alcohol level that exceeds 0.04 grams per 210 litres of breath or equivalent concentration for urine or saliva, or with a drug level equal to or in excess of the concentrations for the drugs set out below:

2.Employees shall not refuse to:

I.Comply with a request made by a Company representative to submit to an alcohol and/or drug test.

II.Provide a sample for the said test.  

III.Follow instructions of the Third Party Administrator (testing company).  

3.No employee shall tamper with a sample for an alcohol and drug test.

4.The work rule permits the possession or use of prescription and non-prescription drugs under the following conditions:

I.Any prescription drug in an employee’s possession or used by the employee is prescribed to the employee, and

II.The employee is using the prescription or non prescription drug for its intended purpose and in the manner directed by the employees physician or pharmacist or the manufacturer of the drug, and

III.The use of the prescription or non-prescription drug does not adversely affect the employees ability to safely perform their duties, and

IV.The employee has notified their supervisor or manager before starting work of any potentially unsafe side effects associated with the use of the prescription or non-prescription drug.

5.A supervisor or manager who receives a notification of an employee’s usage of prescription or non-prescription drugs may not disclose any information provided to any person other than a person who needs to know so as to discharge their obligation under this alcohol and drug policy.
