•Be sure to fasten the cylinders securely so they will not fall over.
•Crack the cylinder valves before attaching the regulators.
•Periodically test the cutting torch outfit for leaks. Use soapy water only.
•Use the correct size tip for the thickness of metal to be cut.
•Always stand to one side of the regulator when opening the cylinder valves and be sure the regulator adjusting valves are fully released.
•Never us a match to light a torch; use a regulation spark lighter.
•Adjust the torch to a soft, neutral flame for cutting unless the nature of the metal calls for a different type of flame.
•Keep the passage in the cutting tip clean.
•Avoid conditions that may cause a backfire or flashback.
Following is the correct sequence of steps for shutting OFF a torch:
•Close the oxygen needle valve.
•Close the acetylene needle valve.
•If the entire torch unit is to be shut down, shut off both the acetylene and the oxygen cylinder valves.
•Remove the pressure on the working gauges by opening the needle valves until the lines are drained. Then promptly close the needle valves.
