Personal protective equipment (PPE) should only be used as a last line of defense to reduce the potentially harmful effects of exposure to a hazard. PPE is much less effective than engineering controls since it does not eliminate the hazard. The equipment must be used properly and consistently to be effective.
All approved Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be supplied at no cost to the employee, used and maintained within the requirements of applicable OH&S Regulations, CSA Standards and manufacturer’s recommendations. PPE shall be inspected at the time of issue and each time used by the worker. PPE that is damaged or in questionable condition shall be removed from service, tagged “OUT OF SERVICE” or destroyed as appropriate. No piece of PPE will be modified contrary to manufacturer’s instructions or applicable standards. Management will ensure that employees are using the required PPE and that it is available at the worksite prior to work commencing. PPE will be provided and worn as per the following requirements, and additional PPE requirements will be dictated by performing a pre job task hazard analysis. All employees will be trained in the selection and care of their PPE.
