Employer/Senior Management

Is responsible to:

Provide all of the necessary information, training and assistance to employees to ensure a safe and healthy work environment, including procedures to follow if a worker refuses to perform work he/she believe to be unsafe.

Ensure employees and contractors are adequately trained to safely perform their job duties by providing them with knowledge of hazard identification / controls and safe job procedures that apply to their scope of work.

Ensure employees hold a journeyperson certificate in the electrician trade issued pursuant to The Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Act, and includes an apprentice4.1 in the trade while under the supervision of a journeyperson.  The holder of such certificate shall be deemed competent to perform his/her duties based upon successful completion and certification by the The Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Act.

Ensure supervisory employees are provided with supervisor training, which must include job responsibilities, OHS Acts & Regulations and OHS Legislation, Company policies and procedures, supervisory skills, and Company emergency preparedness.

Provide employees with proper and well maintained equipment and tools, or any other protective equipment that may be required.

Monitor all employees work performance and hold them accountable for their individual safety performance and their performance of the written responsibilities by monitoring incoming paper work, and conducting annual employee reviews with each employee.

Ensure that a monthly safety meeting is conducted, as outlined in the communications & meetings section of this manual.

Perform at least yearly, a work site tour of random work areas to discuss health and safety issues with on site employees and to ensure Company procedures are being followed.

Perform at least yearly, formal inspections of random work areas to ensure that Company conditions and procedural standards are being met.

Ensure that all new employees are indoctrinated before they start work as outlined in the Training Requirements for orientation section (Section 8.0) of this manual.

Maintaining driving records of all employees for a period of 5 years and making them available for inspection by a competent authority.

Ensure that an investigation of all incidents is completed as soon as they are reported.

Ensure that corrective action(s) are completed for employee reported hazards and concerns identified in inspections, safety meetings, etc., or as a result of incident investigations.  Ensure that lessons learned as a result of such occurrences are shared with all employees in order to reduce the potential for a re-occurrence.

Make readily available for reference by workers a copy of the Act, any regulations made pursuant to the Act, and any standards adopted in the regulations; and provide a suitable bulletin board to post information on health and safety.

Post a copy of the harassment policy in a conspicuous place that is readily available for reference by workers.

Provide in writing to every employer, worker, or self-employed person at the place of employment the following:  the name of the person supervising the job for Power Tech, existence of & location of all emergency facilities, and existence of OHS committee and how to contact the representatives.

Provide basic electrical safety training and training on working safely with electricity, recognition of electrical hazards, prevention of electrical shock and arc flash, and recognition of electrical shock and arc flash labels.

Ensure that electrical equipment shall be of a type and rating approved for the specific purpose for which it is to be used prior to any installations or useage.
