Minimum Required Supplies For This Type Of Injury/Incident:
•Sask. #1 first aid kit
•Facial burn dressing
•Fire Extinguisher
•If victim is overcome by H2S gas, a charged SCBA unit
1.If a person needs to be rescued,
DO NOT ATTEMPT RESCUE IF IT PLACES ANY FURTHER LIFE IN DANGER.
•Contact your Supervisor, Client’s Representative and Emergency Services. Dial 911 for all emergencies.
•Identify if a rescue can be safely attempted.
•Identify potential hazards for the casualty and yourself and take appropriate measures to ensure maximum safety. If the casualty is unconscious on an oil lease, assume that they has been overcome by H2S.
•Wear appropriate personal protective equipment as required (ie: breathing apparatus, etc.).
2.When the casualty is located, isolate them from any further harm or hazard, IF SAFE TO DO SO. If possible do not move the casualty. Instead eliminate the problem/hazard, if you are trained and experienced to do so. If the casualty must be moved, protect the head so that further injuries are less likely to be sustained.
3.Administer first aid. Deal with most life threatening injuries first.
•Consciousness;
•Airway and Breathing;
•Blood Circulation;
•Severe Bleeding;
•Shock.
4.Arrange for ambulance or other emergency conveyance, do not attempt to transport in a private vehicle. Ensure the injured worker is accompanied by a first aid attendant during transport.
5.Direct available manpower to:
•Secure the site from unauthorized access.
•Ensure that clear access and directions are provided to emergency response personnel.
•Ensure crowd control.
•Prepare the casualty for transport.
6.Ensure internal Company communications.
7.If serious injury or death has occurred, the site must not be tampered with or altered (after it is made safe), until the authorities have conducted their investigation. Operations are to remain suspended until approval has been granted to resume by the appropriate Government authorities. Follow the Emergency Communications protocol as per Section 3.10 of the Safety Manual.
8.Senior Power Tech Management or the Company Representative Will Contact:
•Local Police - they must conduct an investigation.
•Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) - they must also conduct an investigation and give the authority to resume work.
9.Complete a Power Tech Industries Ltd. incident report.
