Minimum Required Supplies For This Type Of Injury/Incident:
•Sask. #1 first aid kit
•Facial burn dressing in case of fire
•Fire Extinguisher in case of fire
In the shop:
•Ensure all personnel are aware of the approaching lightning storm.
•Stay in the building.
•Stay away from open windows, sinks, toilets, electrical boxes, and outlets.
•Avoid using the regular telephone. Cell phones are OK.
In the Field:
•Upon sighting an approaching lightning storm, ensure you sound the alarm so all personnel are aware of the danger.
•Find a low spot away from trees and metal objects.
•Seek shelter in your vehicle. Park off the road away from power lines and open the windows a bit.
•If you are working on a Battery site, leave the lease in case lightning strikes a tank, causing a fire/explosion.
•Follow the 30 – 30 Rule: If you see lightning and hear thunder within 30 seconds, follow the above steps. If you have not heard thunder for 30 minutes, it should be safe to return to work.
